Will the Beaver escape the hungry Butcher’s clutches? Will the Baker remember his name? Does anyone know what a Snark looks like?

  • The First King of England….in a dress – Lincoln Drill Hall, Free School Lane, Lincoln, LN2 1EY

2pm

1,000 years ago, there was no place like England for a good story… because there was no place called England!

This was a time of huge battles, because Saxons and Vikings hated each other. So, when a Viking called Knut tried to be the king of the Saxons too, the Saxons weren’t happy. But when a stranger turns up at their door, a grumbly Saxon and his son Ethelred decide to let him in. Soon, they’re all sharing stories about giants, gods, and magic – and discovering surprising secrets about each other too…

Can Vikings and Saxons be friends? Will Ethelred see his mother again? And just why is King Knut dressed like that? Find out in the tale of The First King of England… in a Dress! A fun-packed family storytelling show including puppetry, music from a “genuine” electro-acoustic Anglo-Saxon lyre… and plenty of joining in!

Plus: Arrive early for extra stories and face-painting!

Stars Chip Colquhoun, the storyteller behind the Oxford Reading Tree’s “Big Carrot” and other online videos.

Suitable for ages 3+. Some of the stories told were created by children aged 7-10in primary school workshops.

Running time 1hr 55m
