JACK & THE BEANSTALK

JACK BANNER_LINCOLN MUMS_NOV NEWSLETTER

This Christmas, the Drill Hall celebrates 10 Years of Panto with a spectacular production of Jack and The Beanstalk. And it looks set to be another huge record breaker of a show, packed with all the usual panto magic including, this year, a 12-foot giant.

“We can’t wait to celebrate with audiences” said the venue’s Marketing Manager Gavin Street. “The Drill Hall’s panto journey started in 2007, when we began our partnership with Jamie Marcus Productions to produce a stunning adaptation of Cinderella. Since then the Drill Hall panto has become a firm festive city tradition, with productions of Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Dick Whittington, Snow White and Peter Pan wowing audiences. We work hard to ensure that each production is bigger than the last – and each year more and more people have come along to experience the magic, with the Christmas 2016 adaptation of Beauty and the Beast smashing audience records, playing to over 14,500 people.”

Some of the Jack & the Beanstalk characters were recently out and about in Lincoln for the launch of the show, which was also attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Lincoln Cllrs Chis and Sue Burke with Sheriff of Lincoln, Jo Rimmer, and panto fans from The Minster School (bottom picture). There will be another chance to meet the characters at the city Christmas Lights Switch On on November 17.

As with all Drill Hall pantos, the accent is on the traditional, but packed with contemporary songs  and references and plenty of twists too. Back by popular demand is Lincoln favourite James Campbell as the outrageous Dame Dotty Trott. She’s the mother of our hero Jack and his brother Silly Simon (Adam Fox). They haven’t a bean to their name and their loveable cow Daisy has dried up! If that wasn’t bad enough, the village is being menaced by the giant Blunderbore – and his wicked henchman Fleabottom has captured the beautiful Princess Zena. This is one princess who can take care of herself though, so come along and follow Jack up the beanstalk to find out who saves the day!

“Everything you want from a great panto will be there – a host of crazy characters, stunning costumes, spectacular sets and special effects, hilarious jokes, sketches and song and dance routines, plus, of course, plenty of audience participation. This is one madcap adventure your family won’t want to miss.”
