Join in the family fun at Hartsholme Country Park and further afield this summer!!

This year we are again expanding our already successful program of events out to Boultham Park and the Arboretum with the annual traveling roadshow of events and workshops for children throughout the summer holidays and beyond.

We have many different activities on offer to suit all children whether they are crafty, outdoorsy or just plain thrill seekers, and the good news is you don’t need to leave the city!

Just some of this summer’s activities are detailed below

Let the six weeks summer holiday kick off with our very popular Bottle Rocket Activity (Tuesday 24th July at Hartsholme 1pm to 2.30pm and Tuesday 7th August at Boultham 10am to 11.30am) where you can discover the joys of flight by making your very own Bottle Rocket  This activity has lots going on, a satisfying ‘whoosh’, a high-speed departure and a good soaking if you are standing close!!



Let your imagination run wild in this inventive and creative activity where you can build your very own Junk Animal (Tuesday 24th July at Boultham 10am to 11.30am) from recycled materials.


You will be left asking who lives in a house like this, during Den Building  (Thursday 26th July, Tuesday 28th August 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Hartsholme and Thursday 2nd August and Tuesday 14th August 10am to 11.30am at Boultham) where you can put your construction skills to the test.



Get all arty in our Mosaic Making workshop (Tuesday 31st July 10am to 11.30am at the Arboretum Cafe) where you can create your very own tile to take home.

Discover the colorful world of butterflies whilst taking part in the Big Butterfly Count 2018 as well as lots of fun activities during Butterfly Bonanza  (Tuesday 31st July 1pm to 2.30pm at Hartsholme)



Get up close and personal with some seriously creepy creatures on the Bug Hunt  (Thursday 2nd August 1pm to 2.30pm at Hartsholme). Searching the meadow and looking under logs.



Explore the hidden depths, and delve beneath the surface of our wildlife pond to see what creepy critters are lurking below in the underwater world whilst taking part in our Pond Dipping  event (Tuesday 7th August 1pm to 2.30pm)



In Terrific Trees  (Thursday 9th August 10am to 11.30am at the Arboretum bandstand and Thursday 30th August 1pm to2.30pm at Hartsholme) learn about these wonderful giants of the park, and take part in a craft session to see if you can make a tree smile!



Try your hand at a spot of willow weaving and see what you can create on Thursday 9th of August 1pm to 2.30pm at Hartsholme


Take part in our Dream catcher activity (Thursday 30th August 10am to 11.30am at the Arboretum cafe) where this little piece of Native American folklore will trap all your bad dreams and let the good ones through.


  Join us for our annual Family Fun Day (Sunday 12th August 11am to 4pm at Hartsholme) where you will find a variety of activities for all the family to enjoy. The event is run by the City of Lincoln Council and Hartsholme Country Park Advisory Group.


Make your bugs a home and help keep the insects in your garden safe from the cold winter weather by building a bug box hotel!! (Tuesday 14th August 1pm to 2.30pm at Hartsholme)



Take a short walk to discover the colorful world of Ladybirds and find out about some our spotty friends that thrive here in summer in our Love Bug event (Thursday 16th August 1pm to 2.30pm at Hartsholme) and also take part in the UK Lady Bird Survey 2018.


Put your orienteering skills into practice on a choice of three self-led routes around the Park set up by the Lincoln Orienteering Club (Tuesday 28th August collect your maps anytime between 12.00pm to 3.00pm). Navigate in sequence between a set of control points on the map and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time!
