  • The Big Draw comes to Lincoln Cathedral

The Big Draw Festival, an annual month-long festival of drawing, is making its way to Lincoln Cathedral, providing locals with the opportunity to participate in the worldwide celebration of drawing.

Members of the public of all ages are encouraged to come along to the exciting national event at Lincoln Cathedral on Saturday, 20 October from 10.30am – 1.30pm, where they can join in on the fun, free of charge.

Taking inspiration from the glorious stained-glass windows, participants will have the opportunity to help create a giant piece of art on the floor of the Nave with artist Kirsty Dring.

Kirsty said: “This exciting event will focus on a vibrant large-scale stained-glass themed artwork for all ages. Inspired by the theme of ‘Play’, the interactive piece will offer visitors to the Cathedral the opportunity to engage in some mixed media creativity!”

Education outreach officer at Lincoln Cathedral, Sally Bleasdale, said: “We’re so excited to be hosting a Big Draw session this year and look forward to welcoming people of all ages to the Cathedral who love art.

“This year the theme is ‘Play’ and I love to watch children ‘playing’ with the rainbows on the floor of the Nave created by the sun pouring through the stained-glass windows. On the day, Kirsty will be encouraging children and adults to use this as inspiration for helping to create a beautiful giant paper stained-glass window.

“No artistic or creative ability required, just turn up and have fun with colour, light and all kinds of paper.”

In addition to The Big Draw, the Cathedral is also hosting two ‘monster’ story time sessions this October half-term in the Longland Chantry. Families are encouraged to come along to listen to the stories, including a child-friendly Frankenstein story, followed by a trail of the Cathedral and simple craft activity. The interactive sessions will take place on 23 and 25 October from 11:00 – 11.45am and 1:00 – 1.45pm each day.

Story time sessions are free for children under five and one accompanying adult. For further information, please contact education@lincolncathedral.com.
