Get Onside, is one of Lincoln City Foundation’s flagship inclusion programmes, reaching out so far to over 1500 local children aged between 3-13 years. The project aims to work with local children within their communities through delivering weekly football and multi-sport sessions. We aim this will help develop children’s social skills, confidence, physical skills and increase time spent participating in local positive activities.

The project has been greatly received by the community, with every session being very successful. The project’s success has also enabled us to link up with other community organisations such as Birchwood Big Local, Boultham Buzz, HMP Prison and Lincolnshire County Council.
The project has enabled us to support numerous communities and individuals. Our most recent successful moment was welcoming a group of children from Lincolnshire County Council’s Adoption Services down to Sincil Bank Stadium to participate in fun games and activities, take a tour of the stadium and meet the Checkatrade trophy! The event was a huge success, giving children the opportunity to let off some steam, be themselves and share the experiences with their close friends.

The Get Onside project has also supported Holiday Club and half term activities.  We were able to run ‘in community’ holiday clubs in Birchwood for local children who were unable to access holiday clubs in other areas of Lincoln. Our affordable holiday clubs consisted of a morning or afternoon session, filled with a variety of different sports and activities. These were hugely successful, with further half term holiday clubs planned to take place next year. We also held our very own ‘Community Roadshows’ where throughout the Easter holidays we took fun, family-based sports to different neighbourhoods surrounding Lincoln, to provide free entertainment for the whole Family throughout the holidays.

The biggest event the Get Onside project has run to date are the Summer Festival of Sport series. The Summer Festival made its debut in 2017, with over 500 people coming into the initial event. The festival aims to create a social, warm family-based environment whereby people can access and trial a wide variety of different sports all in one place, run by professional clubs within the community. We envisaged this would help break down the initial barrier to joining a new club to somebody who may lack confidence to go alone without the support of close ones. In meeting the professional clubs from day one also helps provides a direct entry to the club, without committing to yearly memberships. Supporting this, we also include a host of other activities such as Inflatables, children’s rides, infant activities and climbing walls. This year we ran the second Summer Festival, with over 650 people attending and even more activities to try!
